DANCING THROUGH THE DECADES

Role: Creative Direction, Ideation
Studios: Qwely Films, BCN Visuals

Initially, Dancing Through the Decades was a concept that I pitched for Black History Month called A Step At A Time for both the SiriusXM and Pandora teams. The purpose of this concept is to celebrate Black people and our evolution of dance spanning many generations. I aimed to highlight specific socially significant dances and show them evolving real time. Their impact. Showing the significance of dance throughout many Black cultures is Black History.

We worked with outside studios to produce to executions of this concept. The first execution was made for social (top). The second execution was an experiential event in Times Square unified with a 3D billboard of characters doing a variety of dances.

THE
PITCH

The diaspora dances. The Charleston. Twerking. Tap. The diaspora dances. Pearl Premise. Josephine Baker. Alvin Ailey. Debbie Allen. Michael Jackson. Soulja Boy. Megan Thee Stallion. Dancing is not only a form of expression but it’s a language and generational tie from the past to the present.

Dance for Black people is marking life experiences. It’s maintaining and upholding traditions. It’s vulnerability. It’s strength. It’s freedom.
